Hair Idol: Dorian Cobb →
Dorian Cobb is a model. Based on his accent (great video of him talking about the blow out above), I’d say he’s American but I have no confirmed evidence of this fact.

This conditioner is THICK which makes me wonder what the design team was thinking when they decided to put it in a bottle instead of a jar. Squeezing a decent amount out with wet or damp hands was difficult at best and impossible at worst.

I use protein conditioners for one thing–making my deep conditioners better for my color treated, fine-normal hair. I used to use henna as a protein AND color treatment and I absolutely loved the results but since I started using commercial hair dyes I’ve been avoiding it. Henna doesn’t always mix well with chemical dyes.

Read this. Take a second to stop looking at all the pretty pictures on your dash or reblogging all of the fun memes and read about what is happening. Just read it. People need to know what is happening before they can help, and the more people that know the better. There could be something you could do, or there could be something someone you know could do. Maybe...

So I’ve spent the past couple of days pondering about Lady Gaga’s self-proclaimed “gay anthem.” The words “chola” and “Orient” are among the harshest criticisms. Regardless of the quality of the song itself, I will say that “Born This Way” does reflect the LGBT community at…

Book Review: Curly Girl: The Handbook →
If you’re a part of the online natural scene you’ve heard of DevaCurl, DevaChan and Lorraine Massey. Curly Girl: The Handbook is a great introduction to the no-poo regime they use, hair typing and the basics of Deva hair care .It reads very quickly and the book is small and light enough to tuck into a bag or purse to read on the go (which is exactly what I did). I really liked the fact an...

India Arie is an American soul, R&B and neo-soul singer-songwriter, record producer, guitarist and flautist. But you probably know her best for the song “I Am Not My Hair” that has inspired and helped many a natural struggling with backlash against her ‘do.

Esperanza Spalding won Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammy Awards! Congrtualtions! She beat out Justin Beiber (I can’t believe I just typed his name here) and Drake. I hope this means they’ll get off my radio so I can listen to her.

“I knew I wanted to shave it…I wanted to detach myself from my hair. The truth is I never felt comfortable with my natural hair. Going to the hair store was an alternative for me because I would go and I would see racks and racks of options of hair that I always wanted…I tried to buy beauty because obviously I don’t posses it”

Observation →
One of the things I really complained about when I first went natural was the fact I never saw people who had hair like mine. Ever. Never in magazines. Rarely on the streets or in shops. I figured we naturals were (A) Invisible (B) Unicorns (C) Hidden (D) some combination of the above. This was surprisingly discouraging and disheartening.
